New Adriatic Studies MA!
The Ionian University is proud to announce the launch of a new Masterâs program designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and skills in Adriatic Studies. With a multidisciplinary approach and a strong international perspective, the program aims to prepare graduates for the challenges of an evolving global landscape. Here is a detailed description of the course:
Title
MA in Adriatic Studies
The Adriatic: Regionality, Territoriality, Mobility (14th-18th Centuries)
Â
Hosted by the Department of History, Ionian University, Corfu, Greece.
Program Director: Fotios Baroutsos, Assistant Professor (adriatic@ionio.gr)
Â
Purpose
The MA Program in Adriatic Studies extends beyond the mere history of the Adriatic Sea. Instead, it integrates multiple disciplinesâhistory, anthropology, linguistics, art history, and environmental studiesâto refresh our understanding of the Adriatic region and to establish a distinct model of regional studies.Â
To do this, we adopt three key perspectives: a comprehensive view of the entire region (regional), an appreciation of the specific features that make up the whole (territorial), and an awareness of movement, exchange, and overlooked connections (mobility).
In this effort, we seek and find partners from across the Adriatic and beyond: institutions that provide knowledge and expertise, educators with a vision for collaboration and interdisciplinary research, and students who are eager to embrace the challenge of learning.
Â
Key Features:
- The Programâs Duration: Four semesters â three semesters of coursework and one semester for the thesis.
- Flexible Learning:Â The program is offered through distance learning, making it accessible from anywhere in the world.
- Interdisciplinary Focus:Â We combine history, anthropology, linguistics, art history, environmental studies for a holistic view of the Adriatic.
âĒÂ Real-World Engagement:Â Benefit from fieldwork opportunities, seminars, and partnerships with local institutions and organizations.
âĒÂ Expert Faculty:Â Leading scholars and practitioners committed to innovative research and teaching.
âĒÂ Global Perspective:Â The Adriatic regionâs connections to broader global developments, from trade networks to cultural exchanges.
